About

I'm Laura Leu, a writer living in New York City. I enjoy telling strangers on the Internet my name, occupation and city of residence.

I've written for Women's Health, Maxim, Cosmo, Details, Health, Time Out New York, New York Post, McSweeney's and Salon, among others. In January 2010, my boyfriend Adam and I launched Navigeaters, a blog that documents our quest to eat a meal from every nation in the world without leaving NYC. I also created Self-Petting Zoo, your one-stop shop for masturbating animal videos.

If you're an editor who wants to give me work, you can read some clips below or take a look at my resume. If you're a horny old German man, you can watch this video of me playing my accordion while my friend pole-dances.

You can email me at laura.leu [at] gmail.com, or find me on Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, or standing right behind you. Psych!

Arthur Shawcross (1945-2008)

I don’t know how I missed this, but Arthur Shawcross, the serial killer and big bowl of crazy who was the subject of a profile story I wrote, died in November. Here’s his obit.

I spent three hours with him in a very small room, and it’s no surprise that his creepiness was off the heezy. Still, I felt more comfortable with him than I did with any celebrities I’ve ever interviewed. I don’t know why, but sitting down and eating sushi with Nicole Richie was much more nerve-wracking than listening to this guy talk about eating the flesh of dead prostitutes. Also, I did ask him at the end of our interview whether he had fantasized about killing me, and he said, “No, I only kill people I don’t like.” So that was reassuring. I can’t say the same about Nicole Richie.

While I’m not putting money on the fact that he rests in peace—or rots in hell, for that matter—I’ll just say that I hope he comes back as a better person in the next round of life. A much, much better person.
